Who We Are
Founded in 1916 by a group of Norfolk businessmen seeking a
retreat in what was then a coastal backwater, the Princess
Anne Country Club in Virginia Beach has weathered more
than a century of wars, recessions, disaster and peril. Today,
we stand proudly as one of Virginia's premier clubs, offering a welcoming haven for its members.
The Princess Anne is a cornerstone of social and recreational life for many of us, featuring a top-tier golf course that meanders through majestic pines and live oaks, and along tranquil waterways. Our extensive tennis facilities include indoor, outdoor, and pickleball courts, complemented by a state-of-the-art fitness center and a newly renovated aquatics complex.
Our elegant clubhouse boasts spacious locker rooms, inviting bars, a grand ballroom, private dining rooms, and a restaurant renowned for its excellence. The club’s enduring charm is reflected in its rich traditions and the presence of third and fourth-generation members. Balancing deep respect for our heritage with modern elegance, the Princess Anne Country Club remains a vibrant and cherished destination.
We are truly honored to be considered for this prestigious award.

Presidential Legacy
The Princess Anne Country Club has a storied history, including a 1921 visit from President Warren G. Harding and his wife, honorary memberships for George H.W. Bush and his wife during World War II, and the notable fact that a future club member led the rescue of Lieutenant Bush after his plane was shot down.
Military Connection
Initially a club for Norfolk businessmen, the Princess Anne Country Club’s membership evolved with the Hampton Roads area's growth as a major military hub. Today, the presence of Navy jets and vessels underscores the region’s enduring military significance.
Widespread Impact
As residents of Virginia Beach and Hampton Roads, our team and members are dedicated to community giving. Each year, we host three major charitable events that raise vital funds for Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters, Els for Autism, Families of Autism Coming Together, Virginia Autism Foundation, SEALKids, and An Achievable Dream.

PACC 20/20 & Beyond
Capital Replacement Projects
Over the past two decades, the Club has invested nearly $34 million in strategic capital projects, including essential replacements and visionary new facilities, to enhance and serve The Princess Anne Family.
PACC 20/20 & Beyond
A primary role of the PACC Board of Directors is to monitor the performance of the Club and chart a strategic course to ensure that our programs and amenities meet the standards and needs of not only our current Members, but also of future generations. With that in mind, after many months of analysis and deliberations, the Board of Directors recommended and membership approved the PACC 20/20 & Beyond plan in 2019.
This strategic action plan included significant enhancements to our Club including:
To develop this plan, the Board, in collaboration with Club Committees, the Master Planning Committee, the Building Committee, and our Operations Team, worked diligently for over two years. Engaging architectural, engineering, and design experts, the team utilized feedback from the 2016 Member Survey, national club trends, and various studies to create a plan that meets the needs of both current and future members. This effort has now transitioned to the Master Plan Committee, which is currently assessing the latest survey data and trends to guide future club investments.
Rather than soliciting an upfront investment from our members, the PACC 20/20 & Beyond initiative has been financed through monthly capital fees, initiation fees, and bank financing. Fiscal year 2019 was a standout year financially for the Club, marked by the renovation of the Chesapeake Room, upgrades to the indoor tennis facility, and a substantial increase in new members, all contributing to our success.
The final phase of PACC 20/20 & Beyond will feature an expanded short game practice area and a new putting green, designed by Tim Liddy and located adjacent to the practice range. Contracts have been secured for this $875,000 project, bringing the total actual cost to $6,635,772—just $60,772 over the originally approved 2019 budget of $6,575,000. This initiative has increased membership demand, resulting in a waiting list of over 150 candidates.

Christmas
Christmas waves a magic wand over the world, and behold, everything is softer and more beautiful.
– Norman Vincent Peale
Each year, we come together as the Princess Anne family to celebrate the magic of Christmas. For three nights, we enjoy horse-drawn carriage rides, take pictures by the Christmas tree, and delight in singing Santa. This time-honored event embodies the rich traditions that are close to the hearts of every member of our club.
